NCEA has joined with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Missouri Catholic Conference, and other religious organizations in filing an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in a case entitled Trinity Lutheran Church v. Pauley. The case challenges the decision of the state of Missouri to deny the church a grant for resurfacing their playground solely because the grant applicant is a religious organization. In joining the plaintiffs, NCEA states: “Religious discrimination that prevents students in faith-based schools from receiving secular benefits and services available to public school students is a violation of their exercise of their First Amendment rights.”
