At it’s 2016 ISTE Conference in Denver, Colorado, the International Society for Technology in Education announced Ken Willers, Principal of School of the Madeleine in Berkeley, CA as the recipient of the ISTE Administrator Network Award for Exemplary Leadership. A native of San Francisco, Ken offers over 30 years of service in Education. He holds a BA in Philosophy/Teaching Credential, an MDiv in Theology and Advanced Degree in Catholic Educational Leadership from CUA. He has been a classroom teacher at the elementary, Jr. High and High School levels. He has served 9 years as principal of St. John School in the inner city of SF. In 2003, the school received the Innovation in Technology Award, one of only 12 schools in the nation. As well as his administrative role, Ken served as Educational Technology Consultant for the NCEA’s former Department of the Elementary Schools Executive Committee. He is well-known to many on Twitter as @21stCenPrinKW.
Ken has advanced technology in education by his vision of transparent integration. He was able to achieve 100% of teacher technology adoption without a single mandate. His faculty recommendation letter describes Ken as prophetic, motivated, dynamic, committed and collaborative. Several students notes descripted Ken as passionate, supportive and someone who brings in “cool stuff” like Google Hangouts, 3D printers, iPads and the like. Ken transformed a 1937 building into a 21st Century Learning environment. He inspires colleagues to see the value of innovation in the classroom by providing amazing tools, access, PD, and creative experimentation.
