Catholic school principals, presidents, pastors and board members attending NCEA’s Institute for Catholic School Leaders (ICSL) are exploring the many publications at the NCEA traveling bookstore. In between sessions focused on enrollment, capital campaigns, public policy, teacher recruitment and more, attendees shop for titles they can use to help serve their school communities.
Well-known titles related to the Institute’s topics, of course, are popular sales. Among them are: Straight Talking Guide to Running a School for Presidents, Heads of Schools, and Boards for Catholic Elementary and High Schools by Donald F. Rowe, S.J.; Principal’s Survival Guide by William Campbell, S.M., Ed.D; Know No Special Education in this School by Ellen M.E. Wedemeyer, Ed.D. MBA; The Catholic Elementary School Principal by Pam Schiffbauer, Ed.D.; From the Ground Up by John T. Butler, Kathleen Burgoyne Carlisle, William Davis, OSFS, Joan Hart, SSND, Regina M. Haney, Anne McGreevy, OSB, Elizabeth Meegan, OP, and Joan Rosenhauer; and a sell-out book is Flip Flops Are STILL Not an Option! e of the Institute’s session subjects is 25 Lessons Learned in 25+ Years of Catholic School Development by Frank Donaldson. Mr. Donaldson is a development consultant and also is presenting a session with the same title as his book. He is a former Catholic school teacher, development director and administrator turned consultant and now president of the Institute for School and Parish Development (ISPD).
Following the theme of enrollment, Gather Us In Admissions, Enrollment and Retention for Catholic Schools, by Emily Burns and Gabrielle Gallagher is a recently published book on quite a few principals’ short lists, along with another new publication, Parish School: A History of American Catholic Parochial Education from Colonial Times to the Present by Timothy Walch
