FEMA Security Grants

This post was contributed by Dale McDonald, PBVM, PhD, NCEA Director of Public Policy.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has posted notice of funding grants for physical security enhancements for nonprofit organizations (including Catholic schools and churches) that are at high risk of terrorist attack.  These security devices may include equipment such as cameras, alarms, metal detectors, etc.

Applicants must be located within cities listed as specific FY 2016 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI)-designated Urban Areas found in Appendix A of the FY 2016 NSGP Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). Nonprofit organizations must apply for FY 2016 NSGP through their State Administrative Agency (SAA) SAA.   A list of SAA points of contact is available here.  Nonprofit organizations may not apply directly to FEMA. Additional information and Q&As may be found at the FEMA website.

Please note:  Since this is a grant program that provides funds directly to the school to obtain the security devices, accepting the grant makes the school a recipient of federal funds.
